Hello SBA Parents! On Thursday, March 14th a group of our 5th Students led by Mrs. Kempf will be singing the National Anthem prior to the beginning of the Sioux Falls Skyforce game at the Sanford Pentagon. The year 2024 has an extra day as February will have 29 days. People born on the 29th of February who are also known as leaplings will finally get to celebrate their birthdays on their exact birth date!!

Read across America week is SBAs kick off!
Everybody Reads Starts Friday (3/1)!
The 3rd annual Everybody Reads campaign officially kicks off this Friday (3/1)! Everybody Reads is a collaborative initiative with Siouxland Libraries intended to encourage reading throughout our schools and the broader community. We'll be tracking how many books we read from March 1-22nd, and for every book read a raindrop will be added to the walls at our schools and libraries. If we hit our goal of 300,000 books read, we are able to make a donation to our friends at REACH Literacy. Our theme for 2024 is "Rain or Shine: Everybody Reads!". Let's get ready to see raindrops all over our schools as we "make a splash" with reading!
💝SBA Valentines Parties!! 💝
Everyone had a blast celebrating Valentines Day with candy, treats, games, pajamas, and much more!
Just look at all the fun everyone is having!!
For Fat Tuesday, SBA teachers and staff members celebrated with a little 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'!
We each started out with one Mardi Gras colored beaded necklace. Whenever we are around another staff member, we challenge them to a game. Whoever wins first gets the beads of the rival member!
Keep playing until there are only 2 teachers left. Then the winner, Mrs. Hauck, wearing everyones beads!!
The students had fun watching some matches!
Tuesday, Feb 20 is a NO SCHOOL day, so be sure to stop by Oscar Howe Elementary for the second Community Health & Wellness fair, put on by the Community Learning Centers! There are lots of activities for kids, tons of community vendors, and amazing prizes for all!
The American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge has officially started! That's right! Go online to * Heart.org/schools *, or download the *AHA Schools App!* today! This challenge is to help raise money for students who have special hearts! Just like Finn on the flyer!

Back in the 1700s, German settlers who came to Pennsylvania brought their seasonal superstitions with them! They say when Phill sees his shadow, he gets scared and runs back into his home. But if he doesn't see his shadow, well, that just means warmer temperatures on the way!

MLK was an influential civil rights leader known for his work on racial equality and ending racial segregation in the United States.
He was most famous for his "I Have a Dream." speech. Which was given at the Lincoln Memorial on the day that more than 200,000 people participated in the 'March on Washington' for jobs and Freedom!

Family Night is Friday December 8th from 6:30-7:30. It will be a reading theme! Students are welcome to bring a book from home that they can exchange for a new book! They can receive a token for each book/books they bring, to exchange for the same number of books!
You are welcomed to bring blankets or pillows to read on the floor and enjoy a tasty treat with families before the Main Event! The Masked Reader!
